Lawrence bid tearful farewell

The 28-year-old who died last March 27 was laid to rest following a funeral service where his family and friends held back tears as they mentioned the profound impact Kevin’s life had on their hearts and the basketball fraternity.

President of the Georgetown Amateur Basketball Association, Trevor Rose in his address to the congregation stated that Lawrence will be missed on and off the basketball court as he was a gifted basketball player and a devoted friend.

Andrew Hicks, Dean of the Faculty of Social Sciences at the University of Guyana, said that Lawrence should also be remembered for his admirable ability to balance sports and academics and succeed at both.

Lawrence’s eulogy, which was prepared with the recollections of his father was delivered by his uncle Terry Holder.

Holder emphasized how multi-talented Lawrence was as a sportsman by giving a brief summary of Lawrence’s history in sports, from his days in primary school where he was a talented young cricketer, playing with the likes of his primary school teammate Ramnaresh Sarwan, to the point of his demise where he left a bright basketball career.

The sermon was done by Father Evan Semple and Lawrence’s body was later laid to rest in the burial ground of the church.
