The Guyanese right-hander, who last played for the senior squad on the one-day tour of Australia earlier this year, is the only player with international experience in the 13-man side.
“It is always good to be asked to represent the West Indies and I’m really looking forward to the job of leading the team against Zimbabwe. The team includes some young players who are eager to get the opportunity to represent the West Indies,” the 33-year-old said.
“It will be something new for most of the players, who have just played at the regional level. The international exposure will be great and we are all looking forward to the coming weeks.
“I will have a major role to play in upcoming matches. This series will be a great opportunity for all of us to showcase what we have to offer. It will provide us with great exposure, as we are playing against an international team.”
Dowlin had a wretched tour of Australia, managing 11 runs from five innings as West Indies were humbled 4-0 in the five-match series.
He was subsequently dropped for Zimbabwe’s tour of the Caribbean, as West Indies struggled before winning 4-1.
Dowlin will lead the A side in one four-day match and two Twenty20s at the National Stadium in Grenada starting April 16.
