‘Stealth Bomber’ set to fight for world title on May 7

Two-time world champion and Guyana’s first female world boxing champion Gwendolyn ‘Stealth Bomber’ O’Neil is set to fight Crystal Davis on May 7 for the vacant Women’s International Boxing Association (WIBA) heavyweight title at the Foxwoods Resort Casino, Mashantucket, Connecticut, United States.

Gwendolyn O’Neil

O’Neil, who first won the WIBA light heavyweight title on May 29, 2004 against American Kathy Rivers, has a record of 14 wins, six losses and a draw against Margaret ‘Chico’ Walcott. The ‘Stealth Bomber, who is now fighting out of the USA, had earlier told Stabroek News that she will win another title for Guyana and she is confident she will beat newcomer Davis, who has only six fights under her belt.

O’Neil, after winning her title, successfully defended it against Krystal Lessey but lost that title to daughter of Mohamed Ali, Laila Ali in September of the same year. However, in 2008 O’Neil won the vacant WIBA light heavyweight and the WIBC light heavyweight titles against Carlette Ewell but lost in her title defence rematch.
