The telecommunication giant handed over a sponsorship cheque to the HRC Organising Committee yesterday at the company’s head office on Brickdam. Robertson in underscoring GT&T’s interest in the HRC, noted that Ross understands what Guyana has done for him and since the competition is his way of giving back to his country and the sport, GT&T is willing to support.

“Hugh Ross is one of Guyana’s most celebrated body builders and we are very grateful to be partnering with such an influential role model,” Robertson said.

GT&T had supported the first staging of the HRC in 2008 at the National Cultural Centre. Mark ‘Uno’ Perry and Alisha Fortune, that year, went into the history books as the first male and female winners respectively.

Public Relations Officer of the HRC Organizing Committee Franklin Wilson and Athletes Coordinator Leroy George noted their appreciation for GT&T’s tangible support once again.

Wilson said: “We are grateful to GT&T for locking hands with us for this the second Hugh Ross Classic. When they were approached, without hesitation, Wyston willingly came onboard to help make this venture successful.

“They have been helping us out with a few pointers on how to make the running of this event a success and come May 2nd it will be a success.”  The competition involves five male categories and one female category. Bantamweight, Lightweight, Welterweight, Light Middleweight and Heavyweight are the weight classes for the men while the females will be competing in the Body Fitness category.

Meanwhile, the Hugh Ross Organization is also hosting a health and fitness walk as a means of promoting a healthy lifestyle.
