Sports associations face tomorrow deadline to name CAC Games athletes

Sports associations have one day left to submit the names of their athletes for the Central American and Caribbean Games scheduled for July 22-31 in Mayaguez, Puerto Rico.

K. Juman Yassin

President of the Guyana Olympic Association (GOA), K. Juman Yassin told Stabroek Sport yesterday that after the finalised draft was received by tomorrow  the next step will be the GOA’s approach to the United States Embassy for visas for the athletes.

Yassin, who was at a meeting yesterday when he was contacted, said while some of the associations have submitted the names of their athletes and officials,   others will submit at the last minute.

He said he was not in a position to comment on the associations that have already submitted names and the subsequent plans of the GOA.

However, he stated that when all the names are in he will be better able to make informed pronouncements.

He did disclose though, that Guyana will not be represented in weightlifting and judo at the CAC championships.

He could not comment on this at the time and efforts to reach officials from these associations were futile.

The disciplines that will now be represented by  Guyana are boxing, athletics, cycling, squash, hockey, taekwondo, swimming, table tennis and rugby which will be held in Guyana from July 24-25 at the Guyana National Stadium, Providence.
