Rosignol whip Monedderlust 3-0 in BFA Coca Cola knockout final

Rosignol United Football Club defeated Monedderlust FC in the final of the Berbice Football Association (BFA) Coca Cola 2010 Knockout Tournament on Saturday at the Blairmont Community Development Centre Ground.

A large crowd witnessed Rosignol United convincingly defeating their opponents 3 – 0 in the feature match while Cougars United finished third after getting past New Amsterdam United 3 – 2 prior to the final.

In the final, Monedderlust pressed forward forcefully with the experienced senior midfield player Elvis Croal leading the way.

The attacks, however, were thwarted by the efforts of young defender Travis “Dread” Henry.

However, after a while it became obvious that Monedderlust could not always suppress the thrust of  Rosignol’s attacks led by Olvis Mitchell and Delbert Wilson.

A 32nd minute strike from Rosignol’s principal scorer Delroy “Tugi” Fraser opened Rosignol’s account and ended the first half with them in the lead.

The ever-present striker Mitchell then extended Rosignol’s lead in the 53rd minute after receiving a solid pass from Wilson who was dominant in midfield.

Substitute Sylvester Smith delivered the final blow to Monedderlust when he struck four minutes before the regulation time whistle.

Two quite determined teams contested the third place showdown.

They were deadlocked at two at regulation time before  Cougars scored in extra time for the victory.

Charles Williams and Horace Roache scoring in the seventh and 50th minutes scored for Cougars while Kelvin Joseph (55th) and Adrian “Garnett” Adams (67th) scored for N/A United.

Winston Benjamin was the savior of the day when he broke the deadlock seven minutes into extra time which also pushed his goal tally to nine, making him the highest goal scorer in the tournament.

Banks DIH’s Carlton Joao was present to witness the successfully staged final which was sponsored by his company.
