Persaud wins Castrol- sponsored 50-miler

Robin Persaud, in a time of one hour, 53 minutes and 54 seconds, won the annual Castrol-sponsored 50-mile road race Sunday (Father’s Day) on the West Bank of Demerara.

Robin Persaud finishes ahead of the field at Sunday’s Fathers Day meet.

Jude Bentley was second and Junior Niles third.

Marlon Williams, Ian Jackson and Walter Grant-Stuart took the next three positions.

In the Veterans’ category, Virgil Jones beat Gary Benjamin and Leonard Lovell into second and third place respectively.

Paul DeNobrega won the Junior category ahead of rival Neil Reece.

Clyde Jacobs topped the Upright category while Mario King and Mark Harris placed second and third respectively.

The race meet which was organized by national cycling coach Hassan Mohamed, began at Wales Police Station at 09:00 hrs; proceeded to Bushy Park on the East Bank of Essequibo, before returning to the Demerara Harbour Bridge for the finish.
