Reece spearheads Flying Ace cycle team to national c/ships

Top junior cyclist Neil Reece will spearhead the Flying Ace Cycle Club’s team to the National Road Race championships scheduled for tomorrow.

The Flying Ace team for this week-end’s cycling events.

The Guyana Cycling Federation National Road Racing Championships pedals off tomorrow from the Ocean View Hotel starting at 7:30 a.m. sharp.

There will be three separate starts with two minutes intervals between each start.

The seniors will go first, followed by the juniors and then the veterans and ladies.

Apart from Reece, the Flying Ace Club will depend on Wazim Hasnoo in the senior category, Gary Benjamin in the veterans’ category and Marcia Dick among the females for honours.

The seniors will ride to DeHoop, Mahaicony and back to the OceanView Hotel while the juniors turn back at the Mahaica Old Road, come down the New Road and finish at the Ocean View Hotel.

The veterans and ladies will go to Old Road, Mahaica and turn back at Belfield Car Park.

Bryan Allen, chairman of the racing committee of the GCF said all four categories are expected to be highly competitive as each cyclist in the respective

category will be going all out to wear the “Winner’s Jersey” and have the distinction and honour of being crowned “National Road Racing Champion” of his/her respective class.”

Although Geron Williams who is training in the US will be absent, Allen expects the senior race to be a “gem,” with the likes of Alonzo Greaves, Robin Persaud, Marlon “Fishy” Williams, Warren Mc Kay and Junior Niles.

However, the dark horse here could be Jude Bentley

Who, although not fully back to his old form has been riding well recently and could end up in the winner’s circle.

Reece’s competitors among the juniors will be Paul DeNobrega, Esau O’ Selmo, Kurt La Rose and Daniel Major. Chris Holder, back in the saddle after taking time off for CXC examinations can also come out victorious.

Dick is the favourite among the ladies although stiff

competition can be expected from Kazina Barrett and Naomi Singh.

The veterans’ category should be a straight fight between Virgil Jones and Benjamin although Kennard Lovell could also spring an upset.

Registration is at 7 a.m. and all cyclists must wear their club colours and walk with their licenses’.

Meanwhile, the Flying Ace Cycle Club has named a strong three member team for today’s BMX races in the National Park.

The team is Ray Millington, Elijah Bijadder and Brian Edwards.
