Chin, Sonson remain on collision course

CASTRIES, St Lucia, CMC – Richard Chin and Charlie Sonson remained on a collision course as they both secured uncomplicated victories on the second night of competition in the 17th St Lucia Squash Open to remain unbeaten.

Chin, seeded number one for the tournament, defeated his British counterpart Ray Campbell in three easy games 11-3, 11-3, 11-2 while Sonson, seeded number two, turned back Trinidadian Roger Salandy also in three games, 11-9, 11-8, 11-8 at the St Lucia Yacht Club here.

In group three action, top Vincentian James Bentik won a competitive contest against Mark O’Sullivan of the United Kingdom, taking the encounter 11-9, 11-9, 11-13, 10-6.

Fellow countryman Kevin Bailey joined Bentik in winners’ row, as he outlasted Brit Terry Goodwin to win in four games, 11-5, 4-11, 11-5, 11-4.

On a night when there were no upsets, Jules Snagg got past  Dominique Rivers of St Lucia 11-3, 11-7, 11-2 in group five while Barbadian veteran Nigel Griffith dropped the first game against  Ken Trim of the United Kingdom before triumphing 8-11, 11-8, 11-4, 11-6.

In the final men’s match of the evening, Britain’s Colin Benafield defeated St Lucian Lyndel Norville 11-2, 11-3, 12-10.

On the women’s side of the draw, Vincentian Amber Glasgow defeated Monique Devaux of St Lucia 11-3, 11-8, 11-4 and in a clash of junior players St Lucian Megan Piper  defeated Vincentian Gianna Miller Alexander, 11-7, 11-4, 14-12.
