The Elcock Stable was adjudged champion stable at the Ryan Crawford Memorial Turf Club and Sports eight-event horse race meet on Sunday at the Alness Race Course, Corentyne.
Miss Republic, of the Colin Elcock/Delmur Trading Company stable, lived up to its pre race billing with a clinical win in the `C’ Class Feature race.
With the win the horse took away $350,000 and the Banks DIH trophy for the 1400m race.
Miss Republic, mounted by Paul Delph, charged to the front with ease to defeat the veteran Delmur Gold with Yap Drepaul in the stirrups.
Annie’s Playmate finished third.
The main supporting event for three-year-old horses bred and born in Guyana and the West Indies was run over a distance of 1400m and had a similar $350,000 first prize for the taking.
Elcock Stables Peaceful of the Home came out with a convincing run down the home stretch to win easily from stable-mate Celebration Time.
Megan’s Choice was third and Five Star General, fourth.
Elcock Stables’ Face the Music with Delph aboard swept the `E’ class 1400m event and took away the $240,000 first prize from Mattarazzi, Laura Lee In Flight and World Class in that order.
The `G’ class event was taken by Maracas Star of the Jumbo Jet Stable with Drepaul on the mount to separate itself from The Gap, Face the Music and Casino Royal.
The win was worth $160,000 over a distance of 1200M.
Yap Drepaul continued his fine run on Jumbo Jet Stable’s Sabrina’s Joy, which copped the entity’s second win of the day in the two-year-old event and claimed $180,000. Wicked Intentions, Nordan and Sweet Brother-land were second, third and fourth respectively.
Wicked Intention was also awarded the top prize for being the top locally bred two-year-old in the category.
Lyana, running out of the Bharrat Stable with Drepaul on board, romped home in the `I’ and `J’ class race ahead of Clear Victory, Miami Vice and Indian Flag for the $120,000 first prize in the 1400m race.
Also, the race for I3 non-winners was taken by Miracle Silver of the Bholo Stable from Silver Kid, Graphic and Indian Boy; the win was worth $90,000.
Black Beauty, of the Conroy Collins Stable, was again a winner after taking the `J’ and `L’ category first prize of $80,000 and the Ramnarine trophy ahead of Porridge, Sporting Time and Try Again.
Jockeys Delph and Drepaul were outstanding with three wins and a second place. They received accolades compliments of Ramesh Sunich of the Trophy Stall, Bourda Market.
Over 70 horses took part in the day’s proceedings which had over three million dollars up for grabs.
