“I think the Organising Committee of the Guyana Chess Federation did a fantastic job. The players were very happy with the quality of the venue, the hotel and meal arrangements were very good and the games were very, very competitive, Herbert said in an invited comment last evening.

“I think by every means it was more than successful,” he added.

“The Development Commission of FIDE which I chair provided the travel costs for the players as well as for the arbiter from Suriname, GT & T and Hand-in- Hand pitched in and the Ministry of Sports through Dr. Frank Anthony provided the playing facility.

“All in all it was a good all-round effort from the government, the international body, the private sector and the local chess federation,” Herbert said.

He also disclosed that all the players will qualify for an international rating.

Assistant arbiter of the tournament, Irshad Mohammed told Stabroek Sport that he had already submitted his report to FIDE last evening and that the players should be aware of their ratings when the next FIDE rankings come out in September.
