Over 10 teams ready for True Champions Volleyball Tournament

The True Champions Volleyball Tournament is nearing realization as more than 10 teams have confirmed participation for the upcoming Castrol Strikers and Guyana Volleyball Federation-organised Tournament which is being sponsored by Tradewind Tankers

The tournament which is sponsored by Tradewind Tankers is scheduled to commence on July 17 at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall (CASH).

In the competition will be teams from Berbice, Linden, West Demerara and Georgetown and  they will clash over a three-month period for the $80,000 grand prize.

The teams representing Berbice are Rollers, Port Mourant Jaguars, an Under-19 Unit and Port Mourant Training School, while West Demerara will be represented by two teams from Young Achievers and Goed Fortuin.

The Castrol Strikers volleyball team will also participate and they will be joined by Linden, the GDF and a Georgetown-based female squad.

Three formats will be used during the competition,  the 2s, 4s and 6s,  and teams will need a minimum of seven players.

Games will start at 13:00 hrs and will be played on July 17 and 24 at CASH and Goed Fortuin; August 14 and 28 in Berbice; and September 11 and 18 at CASH.

The winners in the first two months and the second place finishers will receive $20,000 and $10,000 respectively while the overall champion will take away a top prize of $80,000, runners-up $40,000 and third place $20,000.

There is no entrance fee to the tournament  and registration, which closes on July 14, is $2,000 per team.
