Trotman eager to halt string of losses

Lightweight Mark Austin made a fairy tale start to his professional career when he gained unanimous decision wins over Cecil Smith and Shawn Pile in the GBBC/GABA Friday Night Fights Pro-Am card.

Now Austin will have a chance to extend his winning streak and keep his squeaky clean record since he turned pro this year unblemished.

He will face Earl Trotman on August 27 in the seventh edition of the Pro-Am card at the Cliff Anderson Sports Hall.

The two pugilists affixed their “John Hancock’s” to their fight contracts on Thursday in the boardroom of Abdool and Abdool Insurance Brokers Limited.

Trotman, who issued a challenge in the second round of the Austin/Pile bout, has declared that this fight will be an easy one, adding, that he can beat Austin and Pile one after the other.

It must be noted though, that Trotman has lost six of his professional fights while the other one was a drawn encounter.

And judging from Austin’s last outing in the ring against Pile (who is preparing to fight for a CABOFFE title) he is not ready to surrender his clean slate.

Therefore, Trotman, who has not fought since 2007, will have to shake the rust and dust off his gloves to defeat the sharp up and coming boxer.

Leon Gilkes

Also inking contracts on that day were Theophilus ‘Blue’ King and Leon ‘The Lion’ Gilkes for a rematch in the heavyweight division. While Gilkes has quite an unflattering record, he has a win over King, who has  lost both of his professional fights.

King said that he was  looking to redeem himself in the return match up.

Gilkes on the other hand, said that he was looking to better his record, which stand at five wins, 12 losses and three draws.

Former amateur champion Mandessa Moses, coming off a devastating win over her last opponent Alicia Marques, will be matching blows with the much heavier Sharon Warde from Linden. The two women will match gloves in a catchweight encounter over four rounds.

To round out the professional roster, Dexter Marques, former bantamweight

champion of Guyana, will take on Rudolph Fraser. Marques had told Stabroek Sport that he has always remained in the gym and fight fans can expect the same smooth flowing boxer that they have come to know.

Marques’ only defeat in his six-fight professional career came at the hands of two–time bantamweight champion of Guyana Leon ‘Hurry Up’ Moore.

However he picked himself back up with a win against Hewley Robinson last year by a unanimous decision victory.

Moore said that the public can expect a good show on fight night and he will be emerging the winner in the contest.
