Bahamian Williams signs to fight Holyfield

DETROIT, Michigan, CMC – Well-known Bahamian heavyweight Sherman “The Tank” Williams will once again step into the ring in November to face former World champion Evander “The Real Deal” Holyfield.

Williams and Holyfield will contest 12 rounds at the Joe Louis Arena on November 5.

The 37-year-old Williams has not fought since he lost a unanimous decision to Manuel Charr in October in Germany.

Media reports indicate the fight is for the little-recognised World Boxing Federation title, and will be the biggest of Williams’ career.

His previous opponents included former World Boxing Association champion Ruslan Chagaev and former challenger Jameel McCline.

Williams currently holds a ring record of 34 wins, including 19 knockouts, against 11 losses, with two draws.

Holyfield earned the minor WBF heavyweight title, following an eighth-round knockout of Francois Botha in April in Las Vegas.

He will be 48 when he fights Williams (his birthday is October 19), and will be looking to improve his record of 43 wins, 10 losses, and two draws.
