The third annual Berbice Football Association (BFA) organised Cheddi and Janet Jagan Memorial knockout football tournament gets underway today with a double header at the Number Five Village Playfield (Zeelust) at 2pm.

Netrockers of Linden will oppose Fruta Conquerors in the first match while Monnedderlust will challenge Hopetown United in the feature showdown at 4pm.

The other double header that was scheduled for the said date at Burnham Park had to be postponed because of unfavourable ground conditions due to recent rainfall.

However, the tournament is set to continue next week with some very exciting matchups.

The tournament was launched by President Bharrat Jagdeo in the presence of Regional Chairman, Zulficar Mustapha, members of the PPP’s Commemorative Committee and other members of the Region  Six  Administration, at the Babu John Commemorative Site during the celebration of the life of the two former presidents and stalwarts of Guyana in March.

According to a press release from the association the tournament’s commencement had to be postponed due to inclement weather.
