Guyana women fail to reach semis

KINGSTOWN, St. Vincent,  CMC – Jamaica, Barbados, Trinidad and Tobago and St. Vincent & the Grenadines all confirmed their places in the semi-finals of the West Indies Women’s limited-overs competition yesterday.

The Jamaicans romped to their third straight victory in Group-A, when they beat Dominica by 148 runs, and Barbados finished second in the group, with an eight wicket victory over St. Lucia.

Jamaica topped the group with 12 points, followed by Barbados on eight, St. Lucia on four, and Dominica no points.
In Group-B, hosts SVG prevailed over Guyana by four wickets, and reigning champions Trinidad & Tobago had to settle for a no-result, after rain prompted an abandonment in their match against Grenada.

T&T finished top of Group-B on nine points, one ahead of SVG, with Guyana ending on four, and Grenada on one.
In the semi-finals today, Jamaica face SVG at Arnos Vale 2, and T&T meet Barbados at Arnos Vale 1.

There will also be two playoffs for lower places, with St. Lucia playing Grenada at Stubbs, and Dominica against Guyana at Victoria Park.
Yesterday at Stubbs, three wickets for Vanessa Watts, as well as two each for Roshana Outar and Peta-Gaye Hanson propelled Jamaica to victory, as Dominica, chasing 190 for victory, were dismissed for 41.

West Indies Women’s player Shanel Daley, the daughter of former Jamaica men’s team all-rounder Aaron Daley, had struck the top score of 44, as the Jamaicans were dismissed for 189.

At Arnos Vale 2, Barbados captain Shakera Selman captured five wickets for 24 runs to set-up her side’s victory.
Selman sent St. Lucia crumbling for 47, and the Barbadians had little drama in reaching their target.

At Arnos Vale 1, SVG, chasing 115 for victory, stumbled, but eventually limped across the finish line with West Indies Women’s batter Cordel Jack leading the way with 21.

Terisha Lavia captured three wickets, and Samantha Lynch and Jack two apiece, as the Guyanese were bowled out for 114.
Abena Parker hit the top score of 48 for Guyana, June Ogle-Thomas supported with 31, and West Indies Women’s player Tremayne Smartt made 20.
At Victoria Park, T&T were six for one, after they had bowled Grenada out for 71.
