Guyana ended the Goodwill games swimming competition yesterday in Suriname in the cellar position but not before national swimmer Britany van Lange added another gold medal to her tally.
Hosts Suriname emerged winners of the four-team tournament with 1,071 and one half points.
Second place went to Trinidad and Tobago with 934 points while Barbados placed third with 593 points.
Guyana ended with 387 points.
Van Lange, who won a gold medal on Friday, won another gold medal in the 100m breaststroke while Ronaldo Rodrigues and Noelle Smith captured silver medals in the 50m breaststroke.
Van Lange, swimming in the 13 – 14 category, clocked one minute and 3.21 seconds ahead of Trinidad and Tobago’s Sangeeta Maharaj (1:03.78), second and Barbados’ Rhea Babb (1:04.08 1:04.30), third.
In the 15 – 17 category, Rodrigues, 33.11s, was beaten by Jonathan Gillette, 31.78s. Third place went to Barbados’ Gabriel Gumby (33.12s).
Smith won her third silver of the games swimming the 50m breaststroke in 39.06 seconds.
Suriname’s Ruby-Ann Redjopawiro, 37.01s was first and Priscilla Leefland, 39.19s, third.
Smith, who had won a silver medal on Friday, gained her second silver medal in the 200m IM (2:45.80) on Saturday.
She also won a bronze medal in the 100m breaststroke (1:25.71).
On Saturday, 15 – 17 swimmer Jaime Jabar took his first and only medal when he swam to third place in the 100m breaststoke (1:14.65).
Guyana also gained a silver medal in the girls’ 13 – 14 400m medley relay.
Guyana ended the games with a total medal count of 12.
