ITF junior tourney…Ramdyhan reaches quarter finals

National lawn tennis player Nicola Ramdyhan battled her way to the quarter finals of the main draw of the under-14 category of the International Tennis Federation (ITF) junior tournament in St Vincent and the Grenadines.

Ramdyhan thrashed Roberta Haslam and Luka Lyttle in the round robin qualifiers to advance.

Playing a concise format that features the first to four games emerging the winner, Ramdyhan gave a strong opening when she made easy work of Haslam, to deliver a 4 – 1, 4 – 0 win over the SVG’s number four seeded player.

Ramdyhan in an unparalleled performance, thrashed SVG number three seeded player, Lyttle.

Ramdyhan treated Lyttle to the equivalent of a double bagel when she trounced her with a 4 – 0, 4 – 0 win.

However, Ramdyhan’s good fortune did not continue as she was beaten 3-5, 3-5 by Barbados’ Kiana Marshall in her final match in the qualifiers.

Ramdyhan was set to compete against Antigua’s D’Jeri Raymond yesterday in her quarter final encounter.

Meanwhile, Gavin Lewis finished third in group two of the boys 14 qualifying draw, failing to advance to the main draw with one win and three losses.

Lewis got of to a strong opening when he won his first match against SVG’s number seven seeded player, Akeem Guy. However, he suffered consecutive losses to Trinidad and Tobago’s Elan Mendes and Antigua’s Shakir Elvin, respectively.

Lewis was defeated by Mendes 0-4, 0-4 and by Elvin 3-5, 0-4.
