Walker told Stabroek Sport he was pleased to support the tournament as it fosters positive attributes for youth.

President of the Association Moen Gafoor said it was grateful to Walker for his latest donation, noting his consistent support over the years. The money will be put towards buying trophies for the tournament.

The tournament is open to students between the ages of 11 – 18-years-old and will comprise four rounds, each lasting about an hour with a 30-minute break between the first two rounds. The Association said the tournament is part of its agenda to introduce the game in schools. Participants are required to walk with their school badges in order to compete. Only the first 30 registrants will be allowed to play and $50,000 in trophies and other lucrative prizes will be up for grabs.

Gafoor said that due to the limited number of boards the GSA will limit the number of registrants to 30 individuals and is urging interested persons to register early. Registrants are asked to submit their name, telephone number and an e-mail address.

Additionally, Gafoor said registration for the tournament has been extended for another two days and will run up to Friday.

Interested persons can register by calling the following telephone numbers: 600-2870, 621-8176, 623-9568.
