DCC summer camp concludes today

The Queenstown-based Dem-erara Cricket Club’s (DCC) inaugural summer camp culminates today with a simple ceremony at the club’s pavilion commencing from 13:00hrs, and certificates of participation will  be presented.

Both president of the club Alfred Mentore and coach Gavin Nedd expressed their satisfaction at the response given to the two-week programme by the cricketers and their parents.

During the two-week programme, those who attended, including members of Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC) and Gandhi Youth Organization (GYO), were taught the basic and fundamental aspects of the gentleman’s game.

According to Nedd, over 59 students including one female attended the camp and they were not exposed to batting, bowling and fielding drills alone, as they were given the opportunity to exhibit their ability to understand the basics of the game. At yesterday’s session, umpire and part-time commentator Matthew Kissoon took the participants through some of the basic rules of the game, including the number of ways a batsman can be given out, as well as some of the duties of an umpire.

At today’s cere-mony, Guyana and West Indies opener Travis Dowlin along with his national teammates  all-rounder Christopher Barnwell and Derwin Christian are expected to engage in  a 30-minute interaction  with participants of the camp.
