Scorpions tame Panthers

The Beepat Scorpions notched a 71-52 victory over the Colours Panthers last evening in the Pepsi Street Series Division Three and Open Leagues at the Burnham Basketball Court.

The Panthers trailed closely behind the Scorpions for most of the first half and eventually managed to grab the lead after Scorpions’ key player Shelroy Thomas suffered an injury. He was fouled on a fast break and had to be hoisted off the court and taken to the hospital.

With the second-to-last shot before the halftime buzzer, the Panthers captured the lead to end the half ahead at 40-38. But the lead was short- lived as Thomas returned in the third quarter and was instrumental in his team regaining the lead.

Some poor passing by the Panthers cost them dearly and the Scorpions capitalized on their opponents missed opportunities as Thomas added some quick baskets as well as timely assists to help his tam to the 19-point win.

Thomas was the lead scorer for the Scorpions with a game-high 24 points, while teammate Drexel Aron chipped in 12 points.

Meanwhile, the main scorer in the Panthers line-up was Ezekiel London, who netted 13 points.
