Scorpions triumph again, Eagles soar in overtime

In a replica of their Division Three encounter earlier this month, the Beepat Scorpions defeated the Colours Panthers 84-82 when the two teams met in the Open Division of the Georgetown Amateur Basketball Association Division Three and Open Leagues on Tuesday night at the Burnham Court.

When the teams clashed in their earlier Division Three game, Scorpions snatched a 71-52 victory over the Panthers.

However, Tuesday night’s encounter was not so one-sided as the senior players took the game down to the wire before Scorpions eventually grabbed the two-point win from their newfound rivals.

The first quarter ended with both teams on 16 points in the contested opening period, but the Panthers got the better of their opponents by halftime, which saw Scorpions trailing 32-36.
The marginal four-point lead was extended to 16 by the end of the penultimate quarter and the Scorpions faced a near mammoth deficit going into the last quarter.

Not deterred, the Scorpions managed to outscore the Panthers 39-21 and take the game in a high scoring final period, where the Scorpions were six points shy of matching their accumulative total in the first three quarters in the final period alone.

Piloting the Scorpions to their victory was Travis Foster, who amassed 25 points, while Trevor Mcleod pitched in with 20.

Yannick December was the leading scorer for the losing team with 16 points. His teammates Jermaine Edwards and Haslyn Hooper netted 11 points each.

The night’s opening game between Division Three teams, Eagles and Macabees was also a close match-up as the battle for the win spilled into overtime before Eagles emerged the high flyers with a 79-75 points victory.

The Eagles led at the end of every quarter and maximized on a 31-27 lead at halftime to take the advantage when the third quarter culminated with the scores 47-37.

At the end of regulation time both teams were even with 67 points to their name to head into the overtime period where the Eagles mustered a four-point win.

Nazil Mohamed and Neil Gordon were the main scorers for the Eagles with 23 points apiece. Claude Wiggins was also instrumental with 15 points for the Eagles.

Meanwhile, three players were also in double figures on the Macabees score sheet, highlighted by Dylan Walkers 16 points. Daryl Lewis and Tesrick Rambissoon assisted with 13 and 12 points respectively.
