Tutorial High and Queenstown Secondary Schools each rode away with seven wins in the cycling events of the East Georgetown Inter-School Championships held last week around the inner circuit of the National Park.
The cyclists from the two schools dominated proceedings although they received tough competition from St. Winifride’s Secondary, North Georgetown Secondary, Sophia Special School and St. Joseph’s High.
Marlon King grabbed three of Tutorial’s seven wins opening proceedings by pedaling his way to victory in the boys’ 5000m Open race.
He followed up that victory with wins in the boys’ 3000m and 800m Under-20 events.
Tutorial High also bagged a number of first place finishes when the girls took to the circuit with Natiffa Melville crossing the finish line first in the girls’ 2000m and 1000m Under-14 races while Shinelle Higgins won the girls’ 800m Under-14 race.
Peter Lohing picked up Tutorial’s other win in the boys’ 800m Under-16 event.
Queenstown’s Mario King also gathered three wins after out-pedalling his competitors in the boys’ 3000m, 2000m and 1000m Under-16 events.
Queenstown’s Christopher Griffith was not left out of the three-win haul as he was victorious in the boys’ 2000m, 1500m and 1000m Under-14 races while his schoolmate Nimrod John won the boys’ 1500m Under-16 race.
St. Winifride’s secured all of their wins in the female categories.
Shanella Rodney won the girls’ 2000m Under-20 and 800m Under-16 races and Shanice Sealey the girls’ 800m and 1500m Under-20 races.
Ashana Gladstone led the field across the finish line in the girls’ 1000m Under-16 event while Dinelle Hendricks rode to victory in the girls’ 1500m Under-14 event to give St. Winifride’s their other two wins.
Sophia did not complete the cycling events without registering their name on the winners’ list as Derwin Peters secured two wins for his school in the boys’ 1000m and 1500m Under-20 races.
Cleveland King and Imran Ishamal captured one win each for North Georgetown in the boys’ 3000m and 800m Under-14 events respectively while Shanice Bourne snatched victory in the girls’ 1000m Under-20 race for St. Joseph’s.
