Chris International Movados (CIM) comfortably lifted the Guyana Tapeball Association (GTA) Super Sixes trophy and carted off $500,000 when they walked all over Lima United (LU) at the Everest Cricket Club ground on Sunday night.
CIM hastened their chances of winning the title in the month and a half long tournament when Marvin Vyphuis ripped through LU with a hat-trick in his match figures of 4-5 from two overs. The Lima team was bundled out for 31 in 5.5 overs with only Faizul Kareem showing any fight with a top score of 16.
In reply CIM took 4.2 overs of their six overs to reach 32-1 with Troy Gonsalves being left undefeated on 24.
CIM got to the final after they disposed of brutal Jammers of West Coast Demerara (WCD) in the first semi-final by eight wickets. Brutal Jammers batted first and scored 38-5 from six overs with Trevor Benn picking up the bulk of the wickets with 3-7.
In reply CIM’s Nigel Estarido made a vital 26 to enable his team to 41-2 from four overs.
In the second semi-final LU posted 57-4 in their six overs with Devendra Lall making 17. Pomeroon Oil Mill could only muster 50-2 (6) despite 34 from Mukesh Singh.
In the exhibition contest the Media XI suffered another defeat. The Guyana Telephone & Telegraph (GT&T) team made 73-5 while the Media team managed 56-5 from their allotted overs.
The championship team received the top prize of $500,000, compliments of GT&T and a trophy from PC Wireless. PC Wireless also provided the runner-up team with its $200,000 prize while the trophy was donated by Ramotar Investments.
The tournament’s most Valuable Player (MVP) was David Dick of Cari Cargo. He scored the highest score of 98 in the tournament as his team also made the highest total of 139-2 from six overs.
