West Indies U-16 team to tour Australia next month

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad, CMC – A West Indies Under-16 Invitational side will tour Australia next month where they will play seven matches against state sides and a two-day “Test” against the hosts.

Led by Trinidad and Tobago national Under-15 captain Vikash Mohan, the side will leave for Down Under on November 16 and will be special guests at the 50th anniversary dinner celebrating the famous tied Test between Australia and the West Indies in the 1960-61 series.

Managing director of the tour organisers All Sports Promotions Limited, Anthony Harford said the venture had been expanded to a regional effort.

“The Australians invited us to send a representative Trinidad and Tobago team for the tour but myself and Bruce Aanensen who spearheaded the effort last year decided to invite five players from other territories and make it an invitational West Indies team,” he said.

Last year, an Australian Schoolboys team toured T&T.
The regional Invitational squad, to be coached by former West Indies middle order batsman Keith Arthurton, will play seven matches against the Australian Under-16 Schoolboys team, as well as State matches against New South Wales and Victoria.

They will face Australia in the “Test” at the Bradman Oval.
Prior to their departure, the side will be given a farewell reception by the Australian High Commissioner.
