Namilco Football Festival continues tonight

Quarterfinal action in the fourth annual Fruta Conquerors organized Namilco Football Festival unveils tonight at the Tucville Playfield with what is expected to be an intriguing night of competition.

The double header kicks off at 6pm with 2009 runners up BK International Western Tigers colliding with the rejuvenated Santos squad then the hosts, Fruta Conquerors go head to head with the rock-solid Guyana Defence Force (GDF) team in the feature match at 8pm.

This past Saturday, New Amsterdam defeated their Berbice counterparts, Rosignol United 2 – 1 to move on the next round while Western Tigers needled Riddim Squad to eliminate them from the competition.

In match one Rosignol drew first blood in the 26th through a Cliff Campbell strike then New Amsterdam found the equalizer in the 39th minute when Kelvin Joseph found the back of the net.
The second half proceeded to the regulation time whistle in a see-saw battle until Adrian Adams found an opening for NA and exploited it to the fullest to score the game decider.

In the feature match up, the battle could have ended with either team being victorious but on the night it was the team that made the least mistakes which emerged on top.

The first half was won by the Tigers even though it was evident both sides lacked experience in the field.
Tigers took the lead in the first 45 minutes when the boot of Lorenzo Dewsbery who scored in the 32nd minute; the goal was the match decider.
