Ramdin on show as Windies A look to extend success

ST GEORGE’S, Grenada, CMC – All eyes will be on discarded Test batsman Denesh Ramdin as West Indies A will look to sustain their winning form when they face Pakistan A in the first of three one-day matches here today.

The hosts started the tour, which also includes two four-day “Tests”, in fine style last weekend by sweeping the two-match Twenty20 series at the Vivian Richards Cricket Stadium.

On Friday night, they beat the Pakistanis via a “super-over” after scores were tied at the end of the regular play.

In the second match on Saturday, West Indies pulled off a five-wicket win with 18 balls to spare, to complete the clean sweep of the T20 doubleheader. Ramdin, especially, will be of particular importance as he will be playing his first competitive game for a West Indies team since being snubbed for the tour of Sri Lanka because of poor form. The 25-year-old, who has played 42 Tests and 81 One-Day Internationals, is the most senior player in the A squad and will be looking to stamp his authority in order to remind selectors of his ability.

All-rounder David Bernard will lead the squad which also includes other Windies discards, Andre Fletcher and fast bowler Ravi Rampaul.

The match is set to bowl off at the Grenada National Stadium at 9 am.
