An open individual singles table tennis competition for schoolchildren 18 years and under will take place on Friday at the Skeldon Estate Community centre from 10am.
The tournament, which is being sponsored by the Business Community of Corriverton has the approval of the Guyana Table Tennis Association (GTTA).
According to the GTTA’s Public relations Officer Patrick Triumph, the event is an initiative of the GTTA and is aimed at reintroducing the sport to schools across the country.
Tournaments, Triumph said, have already been held in Linden, Georgetown and one is scheduled to be run off in Bartica also.
According to former national junior player Gibran Hussain, the event has already attracted approximately 50 participants from schools throughout the county.
Prizes will be awarded to the top three finishers.
