Horse racing will return to the Ryan Crawford Turf Club (RCMTC) on November 21 for the annual one-day meet at the club’s facility at Alness, Corentyne, Berbice from 13:00 hours.
Eight races are expected to be run during the meet, which is the final one for the year.
According to organisers over $3.5 million in cash and memorabilia will be up for the taking and so far a number of top horses have been registered for the races.
The feature event is expected to be in the B class, and over $900,000 is on offer for that race. The winner is expected to run away with a whopping $500,000 and a trophy while those grabbing second to fourth place will receive $225,000, $101,000 and $45,000 respectively.
Another marquee event will be among three-year-olds for horses born and bred in Guyana and the West Indies over a distance of 1,700m. That race carries a winning purse of $350,000. Moreover, the F class division sprint event will see the competitors battling for a first prize of $250,000.
The two-year open for Guyana and West Indies bred horses over 1,400m has a winning stake of $225,000 while the G class 1,400m gallop will see horses racing for a $200,000 purse.
Organisers also disclosed that the H class 1,200m race has a winning stake of $150,000 while the I-3 and lower 1,400m battle will see the winner’s money set at $125,000.
To roundup the day’s activities the K and L class will be run over 1,400m with pole position horse taking $100,000.
Meanwhile, there will be trophies for the top jockeys, trainers and stables. Music will be supplied by Slingers International Sound System.
