Guinness ‘Greatest of de Street’ opening night flooded with goals

– competition continues tonight
The opening night of the second Guinness ‘Greatest of de Street’ futsal competition was flooded  with goals as the first 16 teams took to the Albouystown Court on their journey to the top in search of the $500,000 first prize.

After the ceremonial kick off, action got underway with the 2008 runner-up Albouystown sinking Woolford Avenue 5 – 0 in match one, then defending champions Hope Street–Tiger Bay disposed of Plaisance 3 – 0.

West Back Road outplayed Kingston 7 – 3, North-last Entrance trounced Sophia 7 – 1, Norton Street played to a 1 – 1 draw with Back Circle while Castello Housing Scheme, Albouystown ‘B’ and Culture Centre Tarmac played to goalless draws with Meadow Brook, Island Allstars and Drysdale Street, respectively.

The competition continues tonight with another eight matches at the East Ruimveldt Community Centre from 6pm.

Albouystown ‘A’ were led by doubles from Devon Dooker (4th, 5th) and Devon Small (8th, 9th) and Roy Samuels who scored the final goal in the 15th minute against Woolford Avenue.

The Plaisance futsal squad went home goalless also as they battled against the defending champs and had Devon Accra, Gerald Whittington and Keoma Gravesande scoring in the 7th, 8th and 11th minute, respectively.

Game three saw West Back Road’s Colin Nelson recording a hat-trick to lead his team past Kingston who put up a fight in the first half but faltered in the second. Nelson scored in the 2nd, 4th and 18th minute while his teammates, Stellon David (7th, 15th) and Sherwin Grimes (6th) were also successful.

Colin Clarke scored in the 8th and 9th minute for Kingston along with his teammate Devon Adams who had an 11th-minute goal but their efforts proved futile.

Lester Peters led the North-last Entrance attack with a hat-trick; he scored in the 5th, 18th and 20th minute.
His teammates Troy Kellman scored in the 9th and 14th minute, Travis Grant in the 6th and Rickford Jones in the 11th while Shemroy Arthur was Sophia’s lone goal scorer with a 13th minute goal.

In the Norton Street/Back Circle showdown, Back Circle drew first blood in the 12th minute, compliments of Allan Kennedy, then Sherwin Chase equalized for Norton Street in the 17th minute.
