Sunburst Camptown’s Devon Ford had a spectacular run against Victoria Kings as he recorded a helmet-trick to help his team into the semi-final round of the Fruta Conquerors organized Namilco Football Festival at the Tucville Playfield on Thursday night.

Ford’s performance got Camptown past Kings 4 – 2 in the feature quarterfinal match of the double header that had Alpha ‘The Hammer’ United hammering New Amsterdam United 5 – 0 in the curtain raiser of the evening.

Last night, Sunburst Camptown met Alpha United in the first semi-final from 6pm, while Santos was set to collide with Fruta Conquerors in the other semi-final from 8pm. Prior to those two matches, East Coast Females were down to challenge Georgetown Females at  4pm at the same venue.

In the feature match-up on Thursday, even though Ford’s performance spurred his team to victory, it was a much tougher contest than the score line suggests.

Ford scored in the 17th minute then doubled Camptown’s lead 10 minutes later. But that did not discourage the opposition as they stepped up their attacking stint and pulled one back in the 36th minute, compliments of Bernard John.
Two minutes later Camptown and their supporters were silenced when Kings’ Royston Morrison blasted one into the back of the net during a goal mouth scrimmage.

The second half resumed with the teams still deadlocked, then Ford regained the lead once again for Camptown with a 47th minute strike that rushed past the opposition’s custodian who managed to get his fingertips to the ball.

Kings could have equalized since they had numerous opportunities but overambitious actions caused them dearly in the end.
Ford scored once more to put the issue beyond doubt in the 90th minute before referee Otis James blew the final whistle.

Earlier, it was a one-sided affair between Alpha United and New Amsterdam.
Guyana’s top team went ahead as early as the eight minute when captain Howard Lowe found the back of the net.
Solomon Austin extended the lead in the 13th minute while Shawn ‘Fatso’ Bishop scored in the 40th and 45th minutes as Alpha United racked up a 4-0 lead at half time.

The second half was completely different from the first as the only goal scored was by Alpha United’s Andrew Murray jr.
