Male over 40 and open softball competition slated for Sunday

The semi-finals for the male over 40 and open categories of the General Marine Softball Competition are scheduled for this Sunday at the Ministry of Education Ground, Carifesta Avenue.

The day will open with two matches at 9am when Industry Super Kings will take on Savage, while Floodlights will come up against Shattaville.

At 12pm another two matches will see  Better Hope Warriors tackle Surprise X1 and Rockaway will oppose El Commandante.

Meanwhile a female division quarterfinal showdown between Crabwood Creek United Females and Corriverton Queens is  also scheduled for Sunday, but at the Scottsburg Ground.

The finals for the male competitions are set for December 4, starting 2:00 pm at the GCC Ground, Bourda. The female semi-finals are also expected to be played the same day. In the semis 4R Lioness will play Trophy Stall Angels and Wellwoman will play the winner of the clash between Crabwood Creek United Females and Corriverton Queens.

The General Marine Softball competition was started in September by the Guyana Floodlights Softball Cricket Association (GFSCA) with Director of Sports Neil Kumar and it is run in collaboration with the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports.

For all three categories the top two teams will be awarded cash and trophy prizes. The winners will receive a trophy and $50,000, while second place teams will be awarded a trophy and $25,000.

Additional individual prizes will be awarded to the  player of the match and the player of the series for the female and male over-40  divisions. These winners will receive a trophy and $5,000.

The next softball tournament will be the Stag Beer and El  Dorado Rum Softball Competition which is expected to take off from  January 23, 2011.
