Guyanese Mangal is top cricketer in South Zone

Guyanese batsman Rohan Mangal was voted Cricketer-of-the-Year at the 2010 annual prize giving ceremony of the South Zonal Council on Friday night in Hermitage San Fernando, Trinidad & Tobago.

Mangal represented Cosmos in the senior division and his exploits with the bat led his team to the title and also to the Club-of-the-Year award. Mangal scored 765 runs during the season at an impressive average of 95.3.

He scored three centuries and among them was his best effort of 239 against Poonah Sports. Mangal’s effort in the South underlined the Guyanese dominance in domestic cricket in T&T. Last week Guyanese David Dick was named North Zone Cricketer-of-the-Year.

On the other hand, some other Guyanese were also honoured for scoring centuries in South Zone: Mangal (Cosmos) 131 against Petrotrin, Mangal (Cosmos) 239 against Poonah, Mangal (Cosmos) 114 not out versus T-Birds, Rajindra Chandrika (Cosmos) 146 not out against Juniors, Paul Bevaun (Debe Youths) 132 against HYO, Ron Ramnath (Debe Youths) 101 against T-Birds, Rajiv Ivan (San Francique) 122 versus Debe Youths and Ivan (San Francique) 114 not out against Hillpiece.
