Windies eying sixth place after jumping ahead of Kiwis

DUBAI, United Arab Emirates, CMC – Despite their disappointing rain-hit drawn Test series, West Indies have jumped one place to seventh in the latest ICC Test Championship rankings.

For managing to avoid defeat in the series, the Windies have overhauled New Zealand and are now on 85 points.

More importantly, the Windies are only now three points behind the sixth placed Pakistan, who they play in a two Tests series in the Caribbean next year.

All three Tests in the just concluded series were drawn after rain intervened in every affair in Galle, Colombo and Kandy respectively.

In fact, just 103 overs and one innings were possible in the final Test at the Pallekele Stadium which finished Sunday.

As a result, however, Sri Lanka have slipped two places to fifth spot in the rankings, with both Australia and England moving ahead of them.

India continue at the top with South Africa in second, while England and Australia and third and fourth respectively.

The ICC rankings are updated at the end of each series.
