Guyana judo team captures four medals in Barbados

Guyana’s two-man Judo team won four medals at the Barbados Independence International Judo tournament held on December 3-4 in Bridgetown.

Teenager Raul Lall, a member of the House of  Water Judo Club  won a gold medal in the individual Under 17 category and a bronze medal in the senior team competition, while Bruce Fraser, a member of the  Rising Sun Dojo won two bronze medals in the senior under 90 kg division.

Geoff Sankies, Vice President of Judo Association of Guyana (JAG) said he was elated at the team’s performance against stiff opposition from judokas from the United States, Martinique, Guadeloupe, Cayman Islands, The Bahamas, Curacao and host Barbados.

tournament and in appreciation of the sponsorship executives of the JAG and gold medalist Lall visited Thirst Park to display the medals won to officials of the company.

Banks DIH Ltd Communications Manager Troy Peters lauded the two judokas for their sterling performance stating that they had done Guyana proud.

David Fraser, a former national judoka who now resides in Barbados served was manager/coach of the team.
