Regional T20 champions put their disappointing loss to the Trinidad and Tobago ‘A’ team behind them as they recovered to beat the T&T Academy by 83 runs in their second match of the TTCB T20 Festival at Guaracara Park in Pointe-a-Pierre yesterday.

Batting first, the Guyanese got runs from their main men in skipper Ramnaresh Sarwan, Sewnarine Chattergoon and Shivnarine Chanderpaul, to tally 164 for eight off 20 overs. In reply, Andre Stoll, Devindra Bishoo and Verasammy Permaul proved too much with the ball, as the youngsters folded meekly for 81.
After the early loss of Travis Dowlin for zero, Chattergoon and Sarwan batted confidently and took the score to 57 before Sarwan left for 24. Chattergoon batted well and posted his half century off 41 balls with four fours before being dismissed with the score at 84. From then on, Chanderpaul took control of the innings and got 49 to propel Guyana to their eventual total.
The T&T Academy, facing an uphill task, found the pace of Stoll too much to handle and the lanky pacer accounted for both openers from the River End. Permaul continued the slide by picking up wickets regularly in the middle before the much touted Bishoo cleaned up the innings with figures of three for eight.
Today, Guyana will face the T&T Senior team in the marquee clash from 6pm and the Academy will face T&T ‘A’ Team from 2pm. The winner of the tournament will receive $20,000.
