The Daniels twin sisters, Shoquan and Shomane yesterday met their match in each other when they clashed in the girls’ under-16 category at the North Georgetown District No.11 Inter-Zone Championships at the Police Sports Club ground, Eve Leary.
Shomane in Zone One and Shoquan in Zone Two met in the 200 and 400m events yesterday with Shomane getting the better of her sibling in both races.
Shomane won the 200m in 26.51s and the 400m in 1:02.00s with Shoquan finishing second in both races.
But Shoquan proved to be the faster of the two with her 12.38 seconds domination of the 100m race with Shomane, second, some 0.18 seconds later. And, in overall results of the day it was Zone Two with 489 points that ended the day on the highest note, while Zone One placed second with 473 points and Zone Three third on 458 points.
Zone Four, participating only in the under-12 category, showed great potential to lead the under-12 category with 90 points.
Zone One remotely trailed Zone Four with 60 points while Zone Two mustered 44 points and Zone Three, 37. Jevina Sampson sparked lots of excitement with her exhilarating performances in the 400m, 800m and 1500m events. On her first year out in the under-14 category, the 12-year-old defied all others as she surged down the track taking first place wins in all of her events.
And spectators were also impressed by girls’ under-14 competitor Ashley Tasher who made a clean sweep for Zone Two with her first place spots in the 100m and 200m. In both races Tasher won the gripping attention of the spectators as she established massive leads over all other competitors.
