German NGO donates 19 solar panels

A German non-governmental organisation (NGO) on December 31 donated 19 solar panels to the Guyana government which are to be used in providing power to hinterland communities.

The EEREPAMI organisation made the donation at the National Museum to Prime Minister Samuel Hinds.  Facilitator Ben ter Welle noted that the venture signified the growing relationship between the countries while the Prime Minister thanked him and expressed his gratitude and explained that the panels will be used in hinterland communities.

Meanwhile present at the handing over, Amerindian Affairs Minister, Pauline Sukhai received 17 of the panels and said that they will be distributed to various regions to aid in the provision of power. The other two panels are expected to be placed at the Fort Zeelandia Museum to power a low carbon path, Minister of Culture, Youth and Sport, Frank Anthony said.

The Guyana Marine Turtle Conservation Society also received nine panels which will be set up at Shell Beach to provide power to the community at large along with two tents. Sirimavo De Freitas of the organisation said that the tents will be able to accommodate 12 persons each.
