Renowned Caribbean singer, Trinidadian Jameel Hoosein was the special guest at the Youman Nabi observance in Guyana this year.

According to a press release from the organizers Hoosein was invited by the Muslim Youth League of Guyana, the United Sadr Islamic Anjuman and the Anna Catherina Islamic Complex (ACIC) for a series of programmes to mark Eid Milad Un Nabi. His participation was made possible by the Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Company (GT&T) and he featured at the Jashne Milad Un Nabi Programme held at the Theatre’s Guild two Fridays ago.

This programme was sponsored jointly by GT&T in collaboration with the Indian Arrival Committee and the Muslim Youth League of Guyana. Hoosein also participated in two other Milad Un Nabi programmes at the ACIC and Meten Meer Zorg West Masjid, thrilling the audience with his superb renditions of Qaseedas.

According to the release Hoosein is among the best Qaseeda singers and he uses the art form as an invitation to Islamic culture and practices. He has sung in several other countries and he is principal of the TML College, St Joseph, Trinidad and performs regularly at programmes organized by the Trinidad government. Hoosein is also a member of the Islamic Broadcasting Network in Trinidad and has to his credit several CDs, the most popular being “Echoes of Islam”.
