Top Cat Theatre to stage Fences next month

The award winning drama Fences by deceased American playwright August Wilson will be staged here next month to benefit students preparing for the upcoming CSEC examinations.

Top Cat Theatre productions will stage the local production at the National Cultural Centre and other venues across the country from April 13-24 under the theme, ‘It’s cool to stay in school’.  The Ministry of Education, and Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport are supporting the event.

According to the press release from the company, the play is specifically targeting students writing the Caribbean Secondary Examination Certificate exams this year. It is scheduled to start at midday on the days it would be staged.

The cast includes seasoned performers including Sonia Yarde, Linden ‘Jumbie’ Jones and Godfrey Naughton. Travis Chase, Gerard Gilkes, Clement Stanford and Oceanna Hoppie are also expected to appear.

The play will run at the NCC and also at the Lower Corentyne Secondary,  New Amsterdam Multilateral School, Cotton Field Secondary School on the Essequibo Coast and Lichas Hall Linden. Tickets are at various schools across the country and cost $400 when bookings are made in excess of 50 tickets.
