Arabian Night for June 6

It is expected to be an exotic night with a different flavour when the University of Guyana Medical School Association hosts Arabian Night at the Mojos Cocktail Lounge on Main Street on June 6.

The students are promising a night that will feature “exquisite taste” of fashion.

The event is being organised in honour of the graduating students of 2010 by the second year students and it is also a fundraiser for the association.

The association will team up with the Guyana Model Search Designers & Stylist Portfolio and the participants are expected to showcase their creative talent. Designers are tasked with creating the Arabian outfits; stylists will have to bring out the Arabian look in accessories, hair and makeup; with models displaying the outfits with Arabian grace. The plus size models are included in the display and they promise to bring all they can to the catwalk.

Tickets for the event cost $1,000 and are available at Movie Town (Croal Street), Spicy Dish (Turkeyen Campus UG), Texaco Gas Station (Mandela) and Lifestyles.

According to a press release from the association the Medical School is an indigenous  national institution established to recruit and train Guyanese, Caribbean and other students as physicians with a commitment to promote health, prevent disease, provide curative and rehabilitation care, and to educate individuals, families and the communities in making healthy lifestyle choices.

“In preparing physicians for the health care delivery systems, the Medical School conducts programmes of education, research and community service and celebrates, this year, 25 successful years of its commitment to such a cause,” the release said.

For this, the institution has received international accreditation by Caribbean Ac-creditation Autho-rity in Medicine and other Health Professions (CAAM-HP) , establishing itself as a credible institute and teaching standards in comparison with Uni-versity of West Indies and is now recognised as one of the leading Medical Schools Regionally.
