Aletha Shepherd ready to take on the ‘World’

Twenty-two-year-old UK-based Aletha Rose Shepherd will take to the Miss World stage in China next Saturday in an effort to bring Guyanese some glory on yet another international pageant stage.

The beauty, who will be among 120 contestants from the world battling for the coveted crown, was chosen to represent Guyana through an online process, according to the official Miss Guyana World website.

The 60th Miss World pageant is slated for the Crown Plaza Sanya, making it the fifth time the international pageant has been held in China.

According to the Miss World website Aletha, who says she loves sporting activities such as  polo, wakeboarding, ice skating and badminton, made it to the semi finals of the Miss World Sportswoman Fast Track Contest yesterday, which was won by Miss Northern Ireland Lori Moore.

Aletha, a business manager who aims to become a successful business woman also enjoys reading, Bikram yoga, dancing and films among other things. Her personal motto is: “Live life to the fullest, be the best that you can.”

She told the Miss World Organisation in an interview that she loves calypso and soca music which she grew up listening to and that the most memorable day of her life to date was becoming a big sister when her beautiful sister Amari was born.

She described herself as “a very ambitious, enthusiastic person with a huge personality. A confident and creative person who is able to socialise well. I enjoy challenges and have a positive outlook on life.”
She said her favourite food is “roti and curry, and I also love beef patties”.

Aletha said she has a passion for acting which she would also like to pursue. The bilingual beauty (English and Italian) said her special talents are writing speeches and poems.
