The man’s relatives told Stabroek News today that he died around 1 am this morning at the Intensive Care Unit of the public hospital. He reportedly suffered complications while being treated.

Samaroo, 32, was confronted by two men, one of whom was armed with a hand gun and during the attack he was shot while the men robbed him. He was rushed to a private hospital and was subsequently transferred to the GPHC.

No one has been arrested in connection with the incident.

Police had reported that Samaroo was attacked and robbed by two men, during which he was shot. Investigations revealed that Samaroo was confronted by the two men, one of whom was armed with a handgun. The armed man shot him and then took away his jewellery and escaped.

The incident occurred while Samaroo was in his yard. At the time of the attack, he was locking his gate. By the time the man “raised his head” from his task the two attackers were already “upon him”.

“By the time we heard the gunshot and run out to see what had happened the two men were already running up the road and nobody bothered chasing after them because we were too busy making sure Paul was alright,” the relative said.

On December 28,  relatives had told Stabroek News that  investigators were yet to return to the scene to look for spent shells.
