Shot Kaneville shop owner released from hospital

Kaneville businessman Majeed Khan, who was shot once in the chest when five bandits invaded his home last Thursday, has been discharged from the Georgetown Public Hospital but the bullet remains in his body.

Relatives of Khan, 31, said he was discharged from the hospital three days ago. It was noted that the man’s condition has improved despite doctors being unable to remove the bullet from his chest.

Khan was expected to undergo surgery to remove the bullet, which entered his chest above the right breast, but a relative noted that an x-ray of the wounded area convinced his doctors that surgery may not be the best option at the moment. Khan is receiving treatment at his home.

The man’s wife, Pamela Gordon, who also sustained injuries during the attack, told Stabroek News last week that two of the men attacked her while she was at the front of the family’s home where she and her husband operate their shop.

The woman said that the two men were joined by three others and she observed three of the men carrying guns while their accomplices carried knives.
Three of the men dragged her into her home and physically assaulted her as they asked for “the money and gold,” she said. She told the men there was some money in the shop. “They keep asking for money and gold and one cuff me and keep making demands.”

Gordon said that her husband, meanwhile, was being assaulted by two of the men who questioned him about money and gold. According to her, he had moments earlier returned from transacting business on the road. She said that the men carted off approximately $150,000 in cash, which represented the day’s sales.

Gordon added that one of the men took her handbag, which contained personal documents, including her ID card and her mobile phone.
