Highway accident claims life of pregnant woman

A young pregnant woman lost her life on Friday evening after the car she was travelling in collided with a tree when it swerved to avoid hitting an animal on the Soesdyke-Linden Highway.

Shenika Elcock,13, were passengers in motor car PMM 8869 which was being driven by Nedd’s mother Carol Nedd.

“It is reported by the driver that she swerved from an animal that ran across the road, lost control of the vehicle and crashed into a tree,” the police said.

The three were rushed to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre where Nedd was pronounced dead on arrival while her mother and younger sister were treated and sent away.

At the Nedd family home in Campbellville yesterday, Carol Nedd was inconsolable when this newspaper visited. With a visible bruise across her chest Carol said she could no longer go over the account of what happened that unfortunate night.

Relatives around her related that she told them that she “notice something run across the road” and tried to avoid it. The family were heading home when the accident occurred.

Nedd was three months pregnant relatives said. She worked with her mother in the family grocery store at the Stabroek Market and was described as a “very quiet” young lady.
