Dramatic Poetry, Calypso Competitions kick start Region Two Mash action

The Department of Education in Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam) was scheduled to kick start its Regional Mash-ramani activities yesterday  with Dramatic Poetry and Calypso Competitions from 09:00 hrs at the Anna Regina Community Centre Ground.

This is among several activities planned by the Department of Education in the region for Mashramani celebrations 2011.

The activities will continue tomorrow with the Mas-querade and Dance Competi-tions, while on the following day the Children’s Costume and Physical Display will be held.

The final curtain will come down with the annual Children’s Road Parade, scheduled for Tuesday, February 22, starting at 10:00 hrs.
The Road Parade will commence from Coffee Grove and end at the Anna Regina Car Park. Trophies will be awarded to the respective winners in the various categories.

Meanwhile, coordinator of Mash activities in the region, Regional Development Officer Daneshwar Gangoo said the Department of Education is also holding an Essay Competition for Mash.

Gangoo said also that the Regional Administration will hold a Debate and Impromptu Speech Competition, Amerindian Mash Heritage in all nine Amerindian communities in the region as well as an Art Gallery, among several other activities.

The coordinator added that on February 23 (Mash Day), the Regional Administration will hold the Flag Raising Ceremony at 07:00 hrs at the Anna Regina Fire Station Tarmac.

The Float Parade and Road Show involving revellers will be held on the Essequibo Public Road starting from Three Friends Village to the Anna Regina Community Centre Ground, where a grand cultural show will be held.

Mashramani 2011 is being celebrated under the theme: “Showcasing our Culture, Sustaining our Pride in 2011”.
