Friendship man dies after ingesting poison

Hours after ingesting what is suspected to be a poisonous substance, Anthony Lall yesterday died in a yard, a few doors away from his Friendship, East Bank Demerara home.

Lall, 46, of 31 Friendship, East Bank Demerara, is believed to have drunk a poisonous substance at about 5 am yesterday. He was taken to the East Bank Demerara Regional Hospital, where he was advised to go to the Georgetown Public Hospital for further treatment. Friends told this newspaper yesterday that the man refused to go and around 2 pm yesterday they received word that he had died in a yard near his home.

Explaining what may have caused Lall to ingest the poisonous substance, his friends said that he recently had a dispute with one of his neighbours. According to the man’s friends, about a week ago the neighbour had his sheep tied on a piece of land and one of them was attacked and killed by a dog.  The neighbour reportedly believed that it was Lall’s dog that killed the sheep. The neighbour reportedly confronted Lall about this.

On Sunday, police visited Lall’s home and told him to report to the station the following morning. Relatives told this newspaper that later Sunday evening, persons in the area began to pelt rocks at Lall’s home.

Lall was a fisherman and a father of four.
