St Vincent assassination plot claims rejected

(BBC) The Opposition Leader in St Vincent and the Grenadines, Arnhim Eustace, has distanced his New Democratic Party from an alleged plot to kill the country’s Prime Minister.

Mr Eustace told parliament that the party was disturbed by the accusations.

Prime Minister Ralph Gonsalves said last week that leading local drug trafficking groups had plotted to assassinate him because of his victory in last December’s general election.

Dr Gonsalves said there was credible intelligence that the alleged conspirators had political links.

The Opposition Leader said the NDP was not involved “in any such matter” and registered his “strongest objection” to the implications contained in the Prime Minister’s statement.
