De Kinderen labourer died of bleeding in brain

The autopsy on Nandalall Williams, the De Kinderen, West Coast Demerara labourer who died on Saturday following an altercation with his step-son found that he died due to bleeding in the brain.

The step-son, who remains in police custody, is expected to appear in court today, a relative said. Williams, called ‘Poodle,’ 58, was involved in the altercation at around 7 pm on Saturday. Police had said that Williams and his stepson had an argument, during which he was struck about his body with a piece of wood.

He was taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital (WDRH) where he succumbed to his injuries.

A post-mortem examination was carried out yesterday and it revealed that Williams died due to internal bleeding in the brain, his step-daughter, Shonnette Oselmo said. She said that they were told by police that the suspect will be charged and is to appear in court today.

Another step-daughter, Bibi Nazmoon Ali, had told Stabroek News on Sunday that Williams had arrived at the home on Saturday afternoon and began to drink alcohol.

She said that in the late afternoon, Williams had forbidden her brother from entering the home but later he proceeded to re-enter.

However, she said, as he did so Williams ran towards him with an old cutlass while her brother picked up a wood.

The two scuffled and eventually residents transported Williams to the Leonora Diagnostic Centre from where he was transferred to the WDRH where he succumbed.   She said that the injured man was bleeding from the head.

The stepson, Ashraf Ali, 47 was arrested by police on Sunday. The deceased’s wife Bibi Zabeeda Ali had told Stabroek News that they two always had problems when they drank together.
