Teen accused of Ruimzeight murder found, charged

Police recently captured the teenager accused of stabbing a man to death last year November and he was charged with murder at the Vreed-en-Hoop Magistrate’s Court yesterday.

Eddie Williams, 18, of 37 Back Street, Ruimzeight, West Coast Demerara was not required to plead to the capital offence and was remanded to prison by Magistrate Nyasha Williams-Hatmin. It is alleged that on November 30 last year at Ruimzeight, Williams murdered Jermaine Jones.

It was reported that Jones, 29, of Diamond Housing Scheme was stabbed to death at Ruimzeight during an early morning row. The police had said he sustained 14 stab wounds and died before reaching the West Demerara Regional Hospital, where he was rushed shortly after the incident.

Reports at the time said Jones went to a house at Ruimzeight where he accused the teen of stealing a cellular phone and money. Williams is related to Jones’ girlfriend, who lived in the same house. Jones reportedly beat the teenager with a baseball bat and managed to relieve him of two knives. The argument later continued and it was reported that Williams was seen repeatedly stabbing Jones.

The youth later fled in bloodied clothing, clutching the murder weapon and a plastic bag. He was captured by police recently. He will return to court on April 14.
